Professional Contacts

Part 1

When I first read this assignment I was intimidated.  I couldn't understand how I was going to create contacts in other countries.  My biggest concern was the language barrier.  I must have looked at the sites for the blog resources about four times before I chose anybody to contact.  In the end I chose South Africa, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.  I just did this yesterday so I haven't heard back yet but hopefully someone will respond. I'm actually anxious about getting the responses.  I'm looking forward to what I might learn from these professionals about early childhood in their countries.

Part 2

I looked at a couple different sites for this part of the assignment.  But I chose National Black Child Development Institute.  This organization's mission is to improve and advance the lives of black children and their families, through advocacy and education.  I chose this organization because I agree with the things they are working to accomplish.  I signed up for newsletter updates and I am thinking of joining the organization.  I found out their is an affiliate in my city.

  1. I understand what you mean about being intimidated! I didn't think about the language barrier, I still feel like a little girl at times in a room full of dignified and very important people and trying to get someone to acknowledge me, lol.

  2. It does get a bit overwhelming when trying to make contact, this is why I e-mailed numurous individuals and organizations in hopes that someone would respond. I was able to get one response and I really hope that the communication continues. You mentioned the langugae barrier...the e-mail I received was written in both English and their native language; therefore, my contact must be a translator. Good luck with your connections and I lood forward to reading about all the great things your organization and contact are doing or trying to do in the early childhood arena.

  3. I can relate to your initial reaction to reaching out to international contacts, but it seems like a great way to get new information about the program for young children in other areas of the world. I too have not heard back from those that I contacted, but I am certainly looking forward to any opportunity to learn about these professionals throughout the course.

  4. I was also very intimidated by this assignment, but I think it will be interesting and very enjoyable. It's definitely outside the box and I feel that it will be and interesting way to develop communications, as I feel that is the hardes thing to establish when obtaining a degree online. If you do not hear back from your contacts, what do you think your next step will be? I have emailed many contacts and only heard from one. I have established another contact through a former family of my school. If I hear from another, I can steer them in your direction if you feel that it will help. Good luck and I look forward to working with you!

  6. I agree with you and everyone who has commented as well. I was very anxious and nervous about this assignment. I had to realize the only difference from what I have been doing for the past year and this assignment is that it is making contacts around the world. I have only gotten one response from my emails but I am remaining hopeful that I will get more responses in the next couple of days.
I look forward to hearing about everything you learn about the website you chose to explore.

  7. I totally understand the feelings of intimidation. I thought about the language barrier too, but it is kind of exciting at the same time. I am waiting and hoping to get a reply back soon. I think that is great that you have found an afiliate in your city.
