Part 1
When I first read this assignment I was intimidated. I couldn't understand how I was going to create contacts in other countries. My biggest concern was the language barrier. I must have looked at the sites for the blog resources about four times before I chose anybody to contact. In the end I chose South Africa, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. I just did this yesterday so I haven't heard back yet but hopefully someone will respond. I'm actually anxious about getting the responses. I'm looking forward to what I might learn from these professionals about early childhood in their countries.
Part 2
I looked at a couple different sites for this part of the assignment. But I chose National Black Child Development Institute. This organization's mission is to improve and advance the lives of black children and their families, through advocacy and education. I chose this organization because I agree with the things they are working to accomplish. I signed up for newsletter updates and I am thinking of joining the organization. I found out their is an affiliate in my city.
I understand what you mean about being intimidated! I didn't think about the language barrier, I still feel like a little girl at times in a room full of dignified and very important people and trying to get someone to acknowledge me, lol.

It does get a bit overwhelming when trying to make contact, this is why I e-mailed numurous individuals and organizations in hopes that someone would respond. I was able to get one response and I really hope that the communication continues. You mentioned the langugae barrier...the e-mail I received was written in both English and their native language; therefore, my contact must be a translator. Good luck with your connections and I lood forward to reading about all the great things your organization and contact are doing or trying to do in the early childhood arena.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to your initial reaction to reaching out to international contacts, but it seems like a great way to get new information about the program for young children in other areas of the world. I too have not heard back from those that I contacted, but I am certainly looking forward to any opportunity to learn about these professionals throughout the course.

I was also very intimidated by this assignment, but I think it will be interesting and very enjoyable. It's definitely outside the box and I feel that it will be and interesting way to develop communications, as I feel that is the hardes thing to establish when obtaining a degree online. If you do not hear back from your contacts, what do you think your next step will be? I have emailed many contacts and only heard from one. I have established another contact through a former family of my school. If I hear from another, I can steer them in your direction if you feel that it will help. Good luck and I look forward to working with you!

I agree with each of you, this assignment is very challenging but like Raina said what if know one responds back to us,what do we do.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you and everyone who has commented as well. I was very anxious and nervous about this assignment. I had to realize the only difference from what I have been doing for the past year and this assignment is that it is making contacts around the world. I have only gotten one response from my emails but I am remaining hopeful that I will get more responses in the next couple of days.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to hearing about everything you learn about the website you chose to explore.
I totally understand the feelings of intimidation. I thought about the language barrier too, but it is kind of exciting at the same time. I am waiting and hoping to get a reply back soon. I think that is great that you have found an afiliate in your city.
